Nine blades hang above the bed, and tonight you notice they have never once fallen. Look closer. They are pinned behind glass like specimens, labeled in a hand you almost recognize as your own. The magenta ache behind your eyes cools into purple, then into teal, then into ordinary dark. You are allowed to sit up. You are allowed to say the fear out loud to someone who is also awake at this hour, and watch it lose a little of its size in the telling. The house sleeps around you, kindly. Nothing here wants your ruin.
